Eighth Day Cafe Review

On a rainy Saturday Manchester morning (wouldn't have it any other way), one of the few things you can take solace in is the various establishments to get a good breakfast. This particular one is Eighth Day Cafe on Oxford Road, opposite the gardens at MMU and next to the student Union building, fairly easy to get to via bus, that said it is a tad out of the way. Eighth Day cafe is a small, quiet and fairly cheap place, and is part of a vegetarian and vegan shop of the same name. The shop itself boasts various products from Halal to dairy free and gluten free, these also range from food to healthcare products, in 2013 the shop itself did win an award for best independent shop and it's not hard to understand why.

The food itself was really good, my only issue was that the egg yolks were a tiny bit overdone, I prefer them runnier, personal preference, the whites were cooked well and not burnt or crispy. The mushrooms were also overdone, closer to burnt than crispy but again, still good, there's space to play with mushrooms. We ordered a latte with soy milk, which was very good and creamy which is hard with a lot of dairy free milks. On top of all of that, the service was brilliant, really friendly and informative and very fast when bringing food to us. All in all, for two breakfasts, a dandelion and burdock (British as ever) and a coffee it came to a very reasonable £17.05. The cafe also sells freshly made cakes each day, whilst they differ, on this specific day it had 'Snickers' cakes and carrot and beetroot cake, to name a couple. So for me, if you are vegetarian or vegan, or to be completely honest if you aren't (I am neither) definitely come and give it a go, because you really wouldn't be able to tell the difference if somebody put the plate in front of you in Spoons. Also, you can pick up some extra bits of shopping upstairs! If you do want to check it out yourself, this is a link to their menu! http://8thday.coop/cafe/daily-menus/ Final review: Good food, good service, but a little bit out of the way, would definitely go there again. Resounding 8/10! See you all next time! P.S. The cafe still use sugar cubes which I found amazing, because who even uses sugar cubes anymore?
